NightRunner is an intense 1-4 player cooperative first-person horde-survival extraction shooter developed and published by German indie studio 314 Arts (creators of Projekt Z: Beyond Order). Heavily inspired by the tension of Call of Duty: Zombies' TranZit mode, the brutal wave defense of Killing Floor, and the tactical high-stakes looting of Escape from Tarkov, NightRunner tasks squads of mercenary couriers with transporting vital cargo across a post-apocalyptic wasteland plunged into endless supernatural darkness. Players operate and defend a colossal, continuously moving armored train—the NightRunner. At the start of each expedition, players hook up custom carriages, pick specialized character roles, fortify defensive barricades and automated turret emplacements, and map out hazardous continental routes. During scheduled tactical stops in hostile territories, mercenaries must disembark into forgotten underground military bunkers and decaying urban ruins to scavenge weapons, raw ammunition, crafting blueprints, and engine fuel—all while battling relentless waves of nocturnal abominations and racing desperately to clamber back aboard before the train pulls out.
