Gameplay & Mechanics
Companions/Followers
BD-1: Cal's constant and indispensable companion. BD-1 provides healing via Stim Canisters, projects a holographic map, hacks terminals and droids, fires electro-darts, uses a Koboh Grinder to clear paths, slices certain enemy types, provides ziplines, and collects scans for the Databank. Highly customizable cosmetically.
BD Unit Droid
Merrin (Temporary AI): Joins Cal as an AI-controlled combat companion during specific story missions and exploration segments. Uses powerful Nightsister magick for AoE attacks, traversal assistance (creating green bridges/paths), and can turn invisible to perform takedowns.
Human (Nightsister from Dathomir)
Bode Akuna (Temporary AI): Accompanies Cal on several missions as an AI companion. Fights effectively with blasters and jetpack maneuvers, provides covering fire, and assists with co-op actions like opening heavy doors.
Human (Mercenary)
Other Temporary Story Allies (e.g., Cere Junda, Greez Dritus - contextual): In specific narrative moments or combat encounters, characters like Cere or Greez might offer direct or indirect assistance, though they don't typically function as persistent combat companions in the field like Merrin or Bode.
Human, Latero
Atreus: Kratos's son and constant companion. Atreus actively participates in combat by firing arrows from his Talon Bow (Light Arrows for stun/utility, Shock Arrows for electrical damage), choking enemies, providing warnings, and using Runic Summons (spectral animals). He can read Norse runes, helping solve puzzles and understand lore. His abilities and gear are upgradable. He also revives Kratos if he falls in combat (limited). His dialogue and interactions are crucial to the narrative and world-building.
Human/God/Jötunn Hybrid
Mimir (Head): After being reanimated by Freya, Mimir's head is carried by Kratos at his belt. Mimir provides extensive lore, tells stories of Norse mythology during travel (especially in the boat), offers contextual advice, can translate ancient languages, and acts as a guide through the Nine Realms. He also provides humorous commentary.
Aesir (formerly), Reanimated Head
Key Collectibles
Priorite Shards: Shiny crystal shards found primarily on Koboh. Used as currency at Doma's Outpost Commodities shop in Rambler's Reach to purchase cosmetic items (outfits, BD-1 parts, lightsaber parts, music tracks) and other goods.
Jedha Scrolls: Ancient scrolls found in ruins and settlements on Jedha. Used as currency with specific vendors on Jedha (like Eno Cordova's contact) for unique items or lore.
Datadiscs: Data storage devices often found in High Republic era ruins or Imperial facilities, particularly on the Shattered Moon of Koboh. Can be traded to Zee at Pyloon's Saloon for Perks.
Treasures (Chests): Numerous chests scattered throughout all planets. Contain cosmetic items for Cal (outfit components, hairstyles, beard styles), BD-1 components, lightsaber parts, blaster parts, new material colors, or occasionally stim canister upgrades or perk slots.
Databank Entries (Force Echoes & BD-1 Scans): Interactable objects, terminals, or specific locations that trigger a Force Echo (revealing past events) or allow BD-1 to scan for information. These entries provide lore about the world, characters, creatures, factions, and the High Republic era, collected in Cal's databank.
Seed Pods (for Garden): Found by interacting with specific plants across various planets. These seeds can be given to Pili Walde on Koboh to grow in the garden atop Pyloon's Saloon, eventually yielding more plants for harvesting or cosmetic changes to the garden.
Fish (for Aquarium - Skoova Stev): Skoova Stev, a fisherman NPC, can be found at various fishing spots. Talking to him will have him catch a unique fish for the aquarium in Pyloon's Saloon. Each new fish adds to the aquarium's display.
Bounty Pucks (from Haxion Brood Bounties): Dropped by defeated Haxion Brood bounty hunters. These pucks can be turned in to Caij Vanda at Pyloon's Saloon to unlock new bounty targets, earn rewards (weapon/BD-1 parts), and progress her side quest.
Perks: Found in Jedi Meditation Chambers, as quest rewards, or purchased from Zee. Equippable items that provide significant passive gameplay bonuses. Cal has a limited number of perk slots, which can be increased.
Music Tracks: Can be purchased from Doma's shop or found in some chests. Unlocks new music tracks that can be played by the Cantina band or on the jukebox in Pyloon's Saloon.
Odin's Ravens: Spectral green ravens sent by Odin to spy on the Nine Realms. There are 51 to find and destroy with the Leviathan Axe, scattered across various locations. Destroying them contributes to a Labor and rewards XP.
Jötnar Shrines: Ornate wooden shrines depicting stories of the Jötnar (Giants) and their history. There are 11 to find, each revealing a piece of lore when Atreus reads them. Collecting all contributes to a Labor.
Artifact Sets: Various sets of themed artifacts (e.g., 'Lost and Found' toys in Midgard, 'Faces of Magic' masks in The River Pass, 'Spoils of War' for Carja in Alfheim). Each realm/region has its own set. Collecting and selling complete sets to Brok or Sindri yields Hacksilver and XP.
Lore Markers & Rune Reads: Stone tablets, runestones, or scrolls containing Norse lore, stories, and historical information. Atreus can read these to Kratos, adding entries to the Codex and providing XP.
Nornir Chests (Rune-Locked Chests): Special chests locked by three Norse runes. To open them, Kratos must find and activate (e.g., hit with axe, ring bells) the corresponding runes in the nearby environment within a time limit or specific order. They contain Idunn Apples (to increase maximum Health) or Horns of Blood Mead (to increase maximum Rage).
Legendary Chests: Ornate chests containing valuable loot, such as Runic Attacks (Light or Heavy for Axe/Blades), Talismans, rare resources, or Enchantments.
Treasure Maps & Buried Treasure: Players can find Treasure Maps which are sketches leading to buried treasure (Hacksilver, resources, Enchantments) in a specific location described by the map's riddle or drawing.
Language Ciphers (Niflheim & Muspelheim): Four Niflheim language ciphers and four Muspelheim language ciphers are hidden in purple cipher chests throughout Midgard and other accessible realms. Collecting four of each unlocks travel to the respective optional realms of Niflheim and Muspelheim.
Valkyrie Helms (after defeating Valkyries): Defeating each of the eight optional Valkyrie bosses and the Valkyrie Queen yields their helms, which are then placed in the Council of Valkyries chamber.

Weapons Overview
Lightsaber (Single Blade Stance): Energy Sword (Versatile Melee)
Cal's primary weapon. The standard single blade stance offers a balance of attack speed, damage, and defense. Customizable with various emitters, switches, grips, and pommels (cosmetic) and blade colors.
Lightsaber (Double-Bladed Stance): Energy Sword (Crowd Control Melee)
Transforms the lightsaber into a double-bladed staff, excellent for fending off multiple enemies with wide, sweeping attacks. Good for defensive maneuvers.
Lightsaber (Dual Wield Stance): Energy Swords (Fast Melee, Offensive)
Cal wields two lightsabers (his own and a shoto, or Cere's lightsaber temporarily). This stance focuses on rapid attacks and aggressive combos, allowing for quick follow-ups but often sacrificing some defense. Can cancel out of attacks into a parry.
Lightsaber (Blaster Stance): Energy Sword & Blaster Pistol (Hybrid Melee/Ranged)
A new stance where Cal combines lightsaber attacks with a blaster pistol for ranged shots. Allows for unique combos integrating both melee and ranged pressure. The blaster has limited, recharging ammo.
Lightsaber (Crossguard Stance): Energy Sword (Heavy Melee, High Damage)
A new stance where Cal uses a lightsaber with a crossguard (similar to Kylo Ren's), focusing on powerful, deliberate, and heavy-hitting attacks that can break enemy guards. Slower attack speed but high damage output.
Cal's connection to the Force allows him to manipulate objects and enemies. Push and Pull are used for combat and puzzles. Slow temporarily freezes enemies or objects. Lift and Slam are powerful AoE attacks. Confusion can turn enemies against each other. Tame allows Cal to pacify and ride certain creatures.
Cal's droid companion, BD-1, can be upgraded to deploy stim canisters for healing, fire electro-darts to power conduits or stun enemies, hack enemy droids to fight for Cal, and use a grinder to clear obstacles or create paths.
Kratos's main weapon for a significant portion of the game. A magical battle axe imbued with ice elemental magic. It can be used for close-quarters combat (light and heavy attacks, combos), thrown at enemies, and magically summoned back to Kratos's hand. It can freeze enemies and environmental objects. Features two slots for Runic Attacks (light and heavy) and can be upgraded with Pommels and Frozen Flames.
Blades of Chaos: Primary Melee Weapon (Fire Elemental)
Kratos's iconic double-chained blades from his past, infused with fire elemental magic. They are unlocked later in the game and offer a faster, wider-reaching combat style compared to the axe. Also feature two slots for Runic Attacks and can be upgraded.
Guardian Shield: Defensive & Offensive Tool
A retractable shield on Kratos's left forearm. Used for blocking incoming attacks, parrying (which can open enemies to counter-attacks), and performing shield bash attacks. Can be upgraded through skills.
Spartan Rage: Special Ability / Combat Mode
A rage meter that builds up during combat. When activated, Kratos enters a frenzied state, becoming temporarily invulnerable and unleashing powerful bare-handed attacks that can also restore some health. Can be upgraded with skills.
Bare-Handed Combat: Melee (Stun Focused)
When the Leviathan Axe is thrown or Kratos chooses to, he can fight bare-handed. These attacks deal more stun damage, making enemies susceptible to finishers (R3 prompts).
Atreus's Talon Bow: Companion Ranged Weapon (Support)
Atreus wields the Talon Bow and assists Kratos in combat. He can fire Light Arrows (can stun enemies, activate light crystals for puzzles) and later Shock Arrows (electric damage, chains between enemies). His quiver capacity and arrow types can be upgraded. He can also be directed to fire at specific targets.
Atreus's Runic Summons: Companion Special Ability
Atreus can equip Runic Summons that allow him to call upon spectral animals (e.g., wolves, squirrels, stags) to attack or distract enemies. These summons have cooldowns and can be upgraded.
Armor / Gear Sets
Outfits (Jacket, Shirt, Pants - Cosmetic Sets): Cal Kestis can equip various cosmetic clothing items. These are typically unlocked as full sets (Jacket, Shirt, Pants) or individual pieces found in chests or purchased from vendors. Examples include the 'Survivor' outfit, 'Jedi' robes, 'Bandolier' set, etc. These are purely cosmetic and do not provide stat bonuses. Colors and materials can often be customized.
Ponchos (Removed as primary cosmetic, some outfit components resemble them): While the dedicated poncho slot from Fallen Order is gone, some jacket or shirt components in Survivor have a poncho-like aesthetic.
Hairstyles & Beards: Cal's hairstyle and beard can be customized at specific interaction points (e.g., mirror in the Mantis or Pyloon's Saloon) or when finding new styles. These are purely cosmetic.
BD-1 Components (Head, Body, Legs, Photoreceptors, Audio Sensors): BD-1's appearance can be customized with various components found in chests or as rewards. These are purely cosmetic.
Lightsaber Components (Emitter, Switch, Grip, Pommel, Materials, Colors): Extensive cosmetic customization for Cal's lightsaber(s) at workbenches. Players can collect numerous parts and materials to create a unique look. Blade color can also be changed.
Blaster Components (Barrel, Body, Grip - for Blaster Stance): Cosmetic customization for the blaster pistol used in the Blaster Stance. Parts are found or purchased.
Perks (Equippable): While not 'armor,' Perks function similarly to Talismans in other RPGs. Cal can find and equip a limited number of Perks that provide significant passive gameplay bonuses (e.g., increased lightsaber damage, more health from stims, faster Force regeneration). Perk slots are unlocked by finding specific characters or completing Jedi Meditation Chambers.
Kratos's Armor Sets (Various): Players can craft and upgrade numerous armor sets for Kratos, divided into Chest, Wrist, and Waist pieces. Each set offers different base stats (Strength, Runic, Defense, Vitality, Luck, Cooldown) and unique perks (e.g., increasing elemental damage, reducing stun duration, chance to grant buffs). Armor sets are categorized by rarity and can be upgraded multiple times using Hacksilver and resources. Examples include the 'Traveler Armor Set' (high defense), 'Ancient Armor Set' (elemental resistance), 'Valkyrie Armor Set' (powerful perks, high stats).
Atreus's Tunics/Armor: Atreus can also be equipped with different outfits/tunics that provide passive bonuses, such as increasing his arrow damage, improving his revival speed for Kratos, or enhancing his elemental arrow effects. These are also craftable and upgradable.
Enchantments (Socketable Gems): Armor pieces and some Talismans have enchantment sockets. Enchantments provide further stat boosts or unique passive perks when equipped. They come in various rarities and types, allowing for build customization.
Talismans: Equippable items that provide unique active abilities (with cooldowns) or powerful passive perks. Examples include Talisman of Unyielding Fury (grants Spartan Rage burst) or Amulet of Kvasir (slows time on last-second dodges).
Axe Pommels & Blades Grips: Attachments for the Leviathan Axe and Blades of Chaos respectively. These change the appearance of the weapon's handle and provide passive stat boosts or unique combat perks (e.g., chance to trigger elemental explosions, increased stun).
Shield Skins: Cosmetic variations for Kratos's Guardian Shield. Some were pre-order bonuses or unlocked in New Game Plus (e.g., Exile's Guardian Shield Skin).
Outfits/Customization
Outfits (Jacket, Shirt, Pants Components): Cal can equip various cosmetic clothing items, typically divided into Jacket, Shirt, and Pants slots. These are found in chests, purchased from vendors, or earned as rewards. Examples include the 'Survivor' set (default), 'Jedi' robes, 'Outlaw' attire, 'Commander' uniform, and many more. Color palettes for each component can often be changed.
Hairstyles & Beards: Cal's hairstyle and facial hair can be customized at specific interaction points (e.g., mirror in the Mantis or Pyloon's Saloon) or when new styles are found as collectibles. Options range from short cuts and stubble to longer hair and full beards.
BD-1 Customization (Components & Materials): BD-1's appearance is highly customizable. Players can find or purchase different components for BD-1's Head, Body, and Legs, as well as various material sets (paints/textures) to apply to these components.
Lightsaber Customization (Emitters, Switches, Grips, Pommels, Materials, Blade Colors): Extensive cosmetic customization for Cal's lightsaber(s) at workbenches. Players can collect numerous parts for each section of the lightsaber hilt and choose from various metal or material types. Multiple lightsaber blade colors (blue, green, purple, yellow, orange, white, magenta, cyan, indigo - red unlocked in NG+) are available.
Blaster Customization (Barrel, Body, Grip - for Blaster Stance): Cosmetic customization for the blaster pistol used in the Blaster Stance. Players can find or purchase different barrels, bodies, and grips, and apply various material finishes.
Kratos's Armor Sets: Players can craft, purchase, and upgrade numerous armor sets for Kratos. These are divided into Chest, Wrist, and Waist pieces. Each set provides different stat distributions (Strength, Runic, Defense, Vitality, Luck, Cooldown) and unique perks. Examples: Traveler Set (tanky), Ancient Set (elemental resistance), Deadly Mist Set (Niflheim rewards), Valkyrie Set (end-game). Armor sets also change Kratos's appearance significantly.
Atreus's Tunics: Atreus can be equipped with different tunics that offer various passive bonuses, such as improving his arrow damage, healthstone recovery, or reducing summon cooldowns. These also alter his appearance.
Death's Vow Armor Set (Digital Deluxe): An exclusive cosmetic armor set for both Kratos and Atreus, included in the Digital Deluxe Edition of the game.
