Key locations include various Knot Cities (e.g., Capital Knot City, Lake Knot City, Mountain Knot City), Prepper Shelters, Distribution Centers, and Waystations. The Director's Cut adds a new smaller area, the Ruined Factory, with new missions. While difficult to give an exact sq km due to its varied density and verticality, the total explorable landmass is very significant.

Hope County is divided into three main regions, each controlled by one of Joseph Seed's Heralds: Holland Valley (John Seed), Whiterock Mountains (Jacob Seed), and Henbane River (Faith Seed). Each region has its own distinct biome and feel.
